In 1984, three wine enthusiasts were on a train, heading for the World Wine Fair in Bristol, England. , Andrew Connor, Andrew Bickerton and Stanley Cole, (now retired), had a dream that was to set up a wine Company and sell unique and distinctive Spanish wines to a discerning public either direct or through restaurants, pubs or clubs. In 1985 they bought a small Spanish Importer in Cranleigh, Surrey and they started to realise their dream and A & A Wines was born.
Since those early days through the booming years and difficult years A & A has grown into a strong national wholesaler, one of the UK’s leading Spanish specialists and a leading supplier to both the on and off trades. A & A Wines helped to take ‘La Tasca’ from one restaurant in Manchester to the UK’s leading Spanish Restaurant chain to 75 Restaurants until it was sold in 2008. Subsequently A & A have supplied other restaurant, & Pub groups and have initiated a unique ‘hole in one’ promotion with over 200 Golf Clubs throughout the UK and still increasing. A & A have added breadth and depth to their portfolio from outside Spain. In 2002 the Provisions Arm was born and is now a very healthy food Company.
The two remaining Directors are still as passionate about wine today as they were 27 years ago, even if they do not look quite the same! They have visited all their suppliers, between them, and insist that the wines today are even better than they were able to procure in those early days. Though not related, they have always run A & A Wines as a ‘family style’ business, with the friendly approach to customer service, deliveries and sales that you would expect.
